Welcome to State of Nature.
The first issue of State of Nature comes on 12th September 2005, the 25th anniversary of the bloody military coup in Turkey. We dedicate SoN 1 to all those who fought for life and liberty in this dark period of Turkish history. All those who died in cold prison cells, who were crippled in torture rooms, who were exiled to foreign lands, this is for you. And we dedicate it to all the men and women around the world who have ever suffered under oppressive regimes, from Indonesia to Chile to Gauntanamo Bay, this is for you. We salute those who look beyond their particular existence even in violent times and say with courage: "I" is "We" and "We" is "I".
We would like to thank all the people who contributed to this issue, as well as many others who sent us encouraging emails over the past months. With your support we hope to make State of Nature a powerful voice.
